MAYOR ÖZCAN’S MESSAGE FOR THE JULY 15 DEMOCRACY AND NATIONAL UNITY DAY
Ramazan Özcan, Chairman of the Board of the Malatya Commodity Exchange, issued a message marking the anniversary of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
Recalling how the Turkish nation wrote an unforgettable epic in history through its courage and love for the homeland in the face of the heinous coup attempt of July 15, Chairman Özcan stated the following:
"A full 10 years have passed since the treacherous coup attempt of July 15, which left a dark stain on our history of democracy. We have never forgotten, and never will forget, this vile attack directed at our country's future and independence. Our noble nation stood united as one heart against the July 15 coup attempt and consigned the treacherous terrorist organization FETÖ/PDY to the dark pages of history. That night, a great epic was written in every corner of our country by women and men, young and old alike.
This epic struggle—which instills confidence in friends and anxiety in enemies—has served as a powerful message and lesson to all those harboring treacherous ambitions against our country. No power can overcome a nation that marches against tanks, disregarding the risk to its own life; provided that we remain united and together.
The dignified and resolute stance displayed on the night of July 15 clearly demonstrated that the dark days of past coups are now firmly in the past. We must never forget that national unity and solidarity are the essential prerequisites for the victory of democracy we celebrate as a nation today and for our country’s confident stride into the future. The events of that night showed the entire world what we are capable of achieving through our unity and solidarity."
In today’s world, where the weak have no voice, our country has made significant strides—particularly in the defense industry—following the purification process that took place after July 15.
In a world undergoing reshaping amidst ongoing wars and chaos, our duty is to keep the spirit of July 15 alive, to stand united as a society, and to work ever harder for our homeland—which we cherish more than life itself. We will continue to work for our country’s development and the construction of a brighter future, while steadfastly honoring the memory of our revered martyrs and cherishing the paradise-like homeland they entrusted to us at the cost of their lives.
On this occasion, I once again commemorate with mercy and gratitude our revered martyrs who, at the cost of their lives, transformed the pitch-black darkness of the night of July 15 into a bright future for Türkiye, and I wish our heroic veterans a healthy life.
